This policy explains how Dan Jones ("I", "me") collects and uses personal information through danjonesguitarist.co.uk and related ticket sales for my gigs. If you have any questions, email danjonesguitarist@gmail.com.
Who I am
Dan Jones, guitarist and songwriter, based in Telford, Shropshire, UK. I'm the data controller for information collected through this website.
What I collect
Information you give me: for example your name and email address if you contact me, join my mailing list or buy merchandise.
Information collected automatically: pages you visit, the device and browser you use, and how you arrived on the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see below).
Ticket purchases: gig tickets are sold through Eventbrite. Eventbrite handles your order and payment under its own privacy policy, and shares order details with me as the event organiser.
Meta Pixel and advertising cookies
I use the Meta Pixel, a tracking tool from Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd (owner of Facebook and Instagram), on the Apps page of this website and on my Eventbrite event pages.
It helps me:
see whether my Facebook and Instagram adverts lead to visits and ticket sales
show my adverts to people more likely to be interested in my gigs, music and apps
When it runs, the pixel can send Meta information such as the pages you view, the actions you take (for example viewing or buying tickets), your browser and device details, and your IP address.
Advanced matching: I use Meta's automatic advanced matching. If you enter details such as your email address or phone number in a form (for example at checkout), the pixel may share a scrambled (hashed) version with Meta. Meta uses it to match the visit to a Facebook or Instagram account, so I can tell whether an advert worked. Meta doesn't receive your details in readable form from this, and it doesn't share your identity with me.
Where it runs and your choices:
On my Eventbrite event pages, the Meta Pixel only runs if you accept advertising or marketing cookies in Eventbrite's cookie banner.
On this website, the Meta Pixel runs on the Apps page when you visit it. It isn't used on my other pages.
You can block it at any time using your browser's privacy or tracking-protection settings, or an ad or tracker blocker. Blocking it doesn't stop you using the site or buying tickets.
You can also manage how Meta uses your information for ads in your Facebook or Instagram ad preferences. Meta's own policy is at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Why I use your information (legal basis)
Consent: for my mailing list, and for advertising cookies on my Eventbrite pages.
Contract: to deliver tickets or products you've bought.
Legitimate interests: to reply to messages, keep the website running and secure, and measure whether my adverts work.
Who I share it with
Meta, as described above, for advert measurement and targeting.
Eventbrite, for ticket sales.
My website and email providers, who store data on my behalf.
I never sell your personal information.
International transfers
Some of these providers, including Meta, may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or UK adequacy arrangements.
How long I keep it
Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe. Messages and order records are kept only as long as needed, and for up to 6 years where tax or accounting rules require it. Meta keeps pixel data under its own retention policy.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete your information, object to or restrict how I use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Email danjonesguitarist@gmail.com and I'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes
I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
